Privacy Policy
OwnTunes Privacy Policy for iOS and Mac
Effective date: September 20, 2026
Your music stays on your device
OwnTunes is built for people who keep their own music library. The app plays and organizes music stored on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. OwnTunes does not require an account, does not upload your music library to cloud music storage.
Information OwnTunes may access
OwnTunes may request access to media files, local network devices, microphone input for voice search, notifications, and nearby playback features when you choose to use those parts of the app. Access is used to provide app features such as local playback, search, AirPlay, Wi-Fi Transfer, web player sessions, Listen Together, network stream playlists, ringtone tools, and library management.
Your playlists, favorites, ratings, playback history, themes, and app preferences are stored on your device unless you choose to export, back up, transfer, or share them through a local network feature.
Local network, AirPlay, and sharing
Features such as Wi-Fi Transfer, the web player, Listen Together, AirPlay, and network stream playlists may make selected music or playback information available to devices on the same local network while those features are active. You control when these sessions are started and stopped.
Diagnostics and app store services
Apple and the App Store may provide crash reports, performance information, purchase status, or other platform-level diagnostics according to Apple settings and policies. OwnTunes uses this information only to improve reliability and support the app.
Firebase diagnostics and optional analytics
On Android and iOS, Firebase Crashlytics collects stability diagnostics after you complete the privacy prompt, including if you select Reject non-essential. This can include installation identifiers, device and operating-system information, crash traces, and performance diagnostics. Optional Firebase Analytics collects broad feature interactions when you enable Analytics in Privacy choices. Our own analytics and crash messages filter music titles, file paths, network addresses, and session secrets. This filtering does not mean that third-party SDKs collect no device or network information.
Google AdMob advertising
The free Android and iOS apps use Google AdMob. Google and advertising partners may collect or process IP addresses, approximate location inferred from IP addresses, device or installation identifiers, ad interactions, and diagnostics. They use this information to deliver and measure ads, limit repeated ads, and detect fraud. Advertising SDKs may store and read information on your device. Non-personalized ads can still involve data collection for these purposes. The Mac app does not use AdMob.
Personalized advertising depends on your choices, applicable consent requirements, and platform permissions, including Apple App Tracking Transparency on iOS. Where required, Google’s consent form provides consent and opt-out choices. Use Advertising privacy choices in app Settings to reopen the available form, or disable personalized advertising in Privacy choices. Availability of the advertising form depends on region and app version. A lifetime ad-removal purchase removes ads on the purchased platform; it does not disable Crashlytics or your separately selected analytics preferences.
Learn how Google uses information from apps that use its services and read the Google Privacy Policy and Firebase privacy information.
Notifications, purchases, and external services
If you enable optional app messages, Firebase Cloud Messaging and platform push services may process a device registration token and delivery information. Apple or Google processes purchases and provides purchase records used to check and restore access; OwnTunes does not receive payment-card details. Voice search may use your platform’s speech services. Opening a network stream connects to the server you selected and exposes your IP address to that server. Apple Music playback uses Apple services and may require a subscription.
Your choices, retention, and requests
Change optional analytics, personalized advertising, and messaging preferences in app Settings. Manage media, microphone, local-network, and notification permissions in device settings. Remove imported files or delete the app to remove app-local data; exported files and backups must be deleted separately. Google and Apple retain service data according to their policies and applicable settings. Contact us for privacy, access, correction, or deletion requests. We may need information to locate relevant support or service records; no OwnTunes account is required.
Children's privacy
OwnTunes is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a support request, contact us and we will help remove it.
